Hey Cheryl,
I "tripped" on acid in my youth and years later had an incredible OBE. I think
moralistic claptrap like Dianne Cooper's should be ignored, like one would ignore
the drivel of a dried-up schoolmarm. Just relax- I mean, REALLY relax, with great desire for the experience, and it will happen!

Hi
I've been reading about OBE's for a while now, and i recently read a book by an author called Dianne Cooper, She states that taking LSD (as i did when i was a teenager about 17 years ago) prevents you from having spiritual experiences (or OBE's) for that lifetime. Obviously this made me unhappy, do you believe there is any truth in this?

Great articles! I agree with you about taking money for your efforts.
You may want to check out saltcube.com, we are a small community that discusses OBEs, methods to induce, and the experiance.

Hi Ken, great article and I agree with pretty much everything you said. I had "accidental" OOBs since childhood, and later taught myself how to do it with intent. For a while I did use drugs as a 'shortcut' (hey it was the 80s, what can I say?) but I agree that they add an element of uncertainty to the experience, as you say.

For me I find that if I get out of 'practice', I begin to lose control over the experiences. They begin happening 'accidentally' again, and I find it harder to do it with intent.

I also think that with any such 'esoteric' practices, myths can build up around them, which is why one hears all sorts of things like the vegetarian diet, and the seasons that are conducive to astral travel. Sometimes I think people need for it to be more complicated than it is.

I've tried many different methods, and I've never found a 'door' at the top of my head, though I've slipped out the back of my head on a couple of occasions. I think what it boils down to is whatever works for the individual. If a vegetarian diet makes someone feel 'cleaner' or 'purer' or whatever, it might actually help with their OOB practices. I am normally vegetarian (vegan actually) for one season out of the year - in the spring I go vegan to help combat my seasonal allergies. The rest of the year I eat meat. I find the vegetarian diet makes no difference in the OOBs, at least for me - but if others find it helpful to go vegetarian, then good for them.

Anyway, I enjoyed the article very much, hope to see more good updates soon.
